Mini Cooper (Colin McRae MBE Commemorative Edition) in Red (1:43 scale by Vanguards VA02529)
This diecast model Mini Cooper (Colin McRae MBE Commemorative Edition) is Red and features working wheels.
Colin Steele McRae, MBE was the 1991 and 1992 British Rally Champion and in 1995 became the first Briton to win the World Rally Championship Driver’s title. McRae’s rallying pedigree met no bounds, winning numerous titles driving for the Subaru, Ford and Citroën World Rally Teams. Colin McRae began his competitive career riding trial bikes, but at 14, he was already experimenting with four wheel vehicles, using scrapyard cars on disused land along with his friends. Then, by the age of 16, Colin discovered autotesting through the Coltness Car Club, and soon traded his bike in for a Mini Cooper, bought for him by his father and five-time British Rally Champion Jimmy McRae. In 1984, Colin won the West of Scotland Autotest Championship in the 707 LHT Mini Cooper modelled here. This car is little-known by most, but it was in fact his first competition car before he switched his attention to rallying where he drove a borrowed Avenger 1600 on the his first ever rally – The Kames Stages. This model is a lasting memorial to Colin, one year on; also on the eve of Mini’s 50th Anniversary in 2009. It also marks the debut of Corgi’s ‘Colin McRae Tribute Collection’.
